The Digestion Sessions

Did you know that sixty-percent of the Unites States population alone is dealing with at least one symptom of digestive dysfunction?

You name it — gas, bloating, heartburn, abdominal pain, candida, constipation, diarrhea — the statistics say that YOU are more than likely experiencing one or more of them, right now at this very moment.

Living with digestive problems has become the new normal. Typically, they begin as minor complaints — a little indigestion here and there, the occasional tummy ache or bout of heartburn.

Sooner or later, what was once a minor annoyance becomes something that can literally take over your life. This usually happens for two reasons — embarrassment and ignorance.

Let me explain.

Let’s be honest, no one goes out of their way to talk about their digestive problems. What happens on the other side of the bathroom door has become the most taboo of topics, a private matter requiring the utmost discretion.

Unfortunately, there is no “bathroom therapist” office to sit in safety and speak freely about your bowel issues. Instead, you keep it to yourself and hope it will all go away with time.

It doesn’t.

And that’s when you find yourself in the doctor’s office, finally revealing every detail of what you’ve been going through for months, maybe years.

At some point during this cathartic act of courage you realize that you’ve used up all 12 minutes of your allotted appointment time and suddenly find yourself in the pharmacy with a prescription for a drug that comes with two pages of side effects.

No exam. No testing. No investigation whatsoever into what may be causing your symptoms.

Just ignorance in the form of a pill.

What now?

THAT is the very question hundreds of millions of people worldwide are asking about their digestive problems.

Today, I’ve come with the answer.

The truth is that “modern day” medicine has fallen as much as 17 years behind the latest research. In other words, almost two decades will pass before your doctor recommends what actually works.

Chances are, your doc is unaware of the growing number of research studies demonstrating these alarming findings:

– The toxicity of persistent constipation may cause common, everyday symptoms like fatigue, attention deficit, and brain fog.

– Autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis are almost always rooted in digestive dysfunction.

– The inflammation from gut dysfunction can spread throughout the body, causing inflammation in the brain, joints, and other important organs.

By the way, inflammation in the gut may also shut down your body’s ability to burn fat. Not good.

Most doctors are either unaware of this information or don’t care to know. Meanwhile, people like you are paying the price in unnecessary suffering and medical bills.

This has to stop. Now.

And that’s why our friend Sean Croxton of Underground Wellness — a real life health crusader — put together a FREE online event called The Digestion Sessions, featuring 25 on-camera expert interviews and gut-healing cooking classes on all things digestion — so you can get the answers you’ve been looking for. Bringing Sexy Back!

It happened again!  Another Ah Ha moment –How many of those are we supposed to get in a lifetime?  I thought I was on track until I opened Dr. Sara Gottfried’s new book “The Hormone Cure”.  Whammy-I read her words describing a 40 yo woman thinking she was going crazy.  The pitiful gal was forgetting things, craving sugar, gaining weight, and generally anxious/overwhelmed by the most trivial of tasks.  Yep my friends–Welcome to peri-menopause!  How refreshing it was to have a straightforward  answer to why I can’t  have fun and chill anymore.  I thought it was because I am a full-time working mother of 4 who was finally starting to crack.  Thankfully, I’ve learned that I am completely normal with common hormone imbalances for my (Yes-This is 40!) age.  The best news it that there is an easy fix!   I would highly recommend reading this book as it outlines the exact hormonal imbalances from which most of us are suffering.  I certainly have cortisol excess (caused by chronic stress) and  progesterone deficiency (the body’s natural Valium) due to peri-menopause.  Dr. Sara implements a distinct program targeted to each exact hormone imbalance .  She gives the reader a concise plan on how to eat, move, think ,and supplement to literally cure the symptoms.  It’s a great read and I strongly suggest it for any woman pre/post/ or peri-menopausal.  Finally, someone (a MD-no doubt) spells it out in terms we can understand and scenarios with which we can relate.  Get her Free Hormone Tool Kit— HERE

You can even take her Free Hormone Quiz —HERE

My personal favorite is Dr. Anna Cabeca’s advice to men from JJ Virgin’s 7days 7 docs series.

Here’s a sneak preview:

Men—-How do you get your woman to initiate sex more?

It’s a simple answer—-cuddle and hold her for approximately 2 minutes after climax.  Why?  Because a woman’s oxytocin hormones raise leaving her feeling satisfied, loved, and yearning for more!!!  I’m sorry MEN, but, we don’t ask for much. Throw us a bone now and then! (no pun intended)

Apparently it works every time!!!  Good stuff I tell you-:

We are all in this together!  Life is a journey and we are constantly changing, learning, growing and hopefully sharing our experience!  And for your  viewing pleasure–Here is Justin (my top 5 celebrity crush)

Gluten Issues –with the Gluten God!

What about all that GLUTEN????

bookswheat90494273732648274_mIRSi2oE_b

I absolutely love the Underground Wellness Site and always refer legitimately interested patients there to learn about nutrition and it’s healing effects on the body.  The body never ceases to amaze mean and the way that we are all so intricately woven together from system to system makes me marvel at the body’s resilience to its mistreatment.  I wasn’t ever aware of how perfectly in tune my mind, body, and spirit all were until these last few years and I am thankful to my awakening.  I’ve played this video in follow-up to the Wheat Belly video that many of you have watched during your office visits.  I am amazed at how little it takes to cause such an uproar in the body–This one is short and worth a one time viewing.  Tom O’Bryan is like the “Gluten God” to me and Sean Croxton has many resources on his site and podcasts that are filled with incredible science, tips, and transformation stories.  Please dig deeper if you are interested at all!

Free Macbook—Whaaaaaaat?

So you all know about my man crush, Sean Croxton, from http://www.undergroundwellness.com.  This guy is the nutrition guru!  He interviews top experts in the field of wellness and then podcasts his interviews for free.  He is genuine and has massive integrity!  He introduced a free Macbook giveaway over the last few weeks to the person with the best photo of #JERFING-(AKA – Just Eat Real Food) .  Well, the  AngelaMD wellness warriors are all about eating real food so we decided to enter the contest.    We were under the gun last night to submit a photo after finding out that my oldest daughter’s computer died.  She is in desperate need of a new one for this semester’s classes at a local college (she is studying to be a social worker).  The Henriksen family rallied and produced these hilarious and somewhat ridiculous photos.

Meaningful Eating

I just listened to a great podcast on Meaningful Eating—-Thanks to Underground Wellness for such a great show on how to form a good relationship with food with Christa Orecchio.  Here are some of the key points that I took away from their podcast–and be sure to visit her site at http://thewholejourney.com .

#1  Make the connection with what you are eating while you are doing it–try not to multitask for one meal a day.  Spend some time really thinking about what you are eating

#2  Pace yourself with the slowest eater at the table

#3  Take your food on a date–the grass is always greener where you water it-so give your food some love and you will have a much less toxic relationship with it.

#4  Create new good rituals with your food–don’t just do it mindlessly

#5  Make eating an act all by  itself

#6  Don’t eat when you are upset

#7  Check in and ask yourself if you are hungry—take a deep breath before eating

#8  Eat slower so you will know when you are 80% full–never eat past this

Be sure to visit http://www.undergroundwellness.com to get more great info and podcast from the nation’s leading nutritionists!

Why I no longer eat beaver butt!

I’m sorry but I had to post this little tidbit that I just came across.  Sean Croxton has a great website and radio show with pod casts on eating real food!  He is also the author of a great book entitled “The Dark Side of Fat Loss” which is available to buy on his site http://www.undergroundwellness.com.  I was reading one his latest blog posts that discloses the nasty fact that raspberry and vanilla flavorings in many of our foods are derived from the anal glands of Beavers!  Upon further investigation —I found even more information on this and was totally grossed out.  Sorry the content is a little inappropriate today but I NO LONGER EAT BEAVER BUTT!
