Big City Farms

Big City Farms specializes in growing heirloom and open-pollinated vegetables on vacant parcels of land in downtown Indianapolis. The operation is committed to bringing farming back into the urban environment. The produce is availabe to the public through a CSA program that runs from June through October. In addition to growing high-quality vegetables, the farm also works to increase food and farming educational opportunities, as well as exploring ways in which well-grown produce can be made more accessible to under-served populations.   Big City Farms partnered with Wishard Hospital last year, as part of a pilot program to get local vegetables directly to participants in a healthy living program.  The feedback from the patients was wonderful, and the dieticians noticed that the overall eating habits of the folks dramatically improved once they had guaranteed access to fresh produce.
